Colin Schmitt has a thorough understanding of both the business of construction and the legal practice of construction litigation. The architect’s son had the privilege of learning construction management from some of the most respected and celebrated names in the field, having served in the roles of project manager and estimator in New York City, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. While he devoted his evenings to studying law at Temple University, he spent his days negotiating change order requests on the construction of a prominent point in the Philly skyline. After becoming an attorney, he has served as general counsel for a commercial real estate developer, in-house claims counsel for a surety, and operated as a solo practitioner representing contractors, subcontractors and material suppliers in private practice.
Lien Line was not started to feed Mr. Schmitt’s law practice. When Lien Line opened for business, he made the deliberate decision to wind down his solo practice. Lien Line is NOT a law firm. It is a service provider dedicated to helping contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers independently improve their collections.
This is not the end of the story. Every construction professional could benefit from the legal advice of a lawyer who understands their business. This is why Lien Line will not offer its services in a state until it first secures the counsel and guidance of an attorney who is licensed to practice law in that state and who understands construction law and mechanic’s liens. Lien Line has independently vetted and verified that the attorneys who are listed as “Recommended Counsel” are qualified to advise its clients. Lien Line expressly denies any access, role, or interest in the confidential relationship between an attorney and his or her client.
